The Rise and Fall of Sydney

To begin - apologies for the lack of a posting for February. The time over the past 2 months has flown by, everyday I was due to update my blog and it never happened!

Here's what has been taking place since the last post:

Sydney

A lot of nights out, a lot a lot of drinking, many hours spent at the apple store, many trips to beaches - Bondi, Coogee and Manly, and many hours spent working in the hostel! I have also made it to Hillsong, and even took the 404 family to the live recording of the new Hillsong CD and DVD. We managed to go swimming on a couple of occasions once my job started on a saturday, the boys would take a trip to the pool of course stopping for a well earned beer on the way home! Many late nights were spent at Cheers bar until 6am watching 6 nations rugby, in fact the England Ireland game I managed to get stuck in the back of an Irish bar and managed to get out alive!

The 404 Family

After living in the Base hostel for a week, I managed to get hold of a work for accommodation position, in fact I have taken on many roles such as kitchen cleaning, bed changing and serving breakfast so that I don't have to pay rent. This led to my decision of staying put in the hostel rather than renting a house. This means I have lived in Sydney rent free for 2 months! I still live in the same 10 bed dorm I originally moved into, but thankfully managed to move into a bottom bunk quite soon after arriving. Over the past 2 months, there have been a few more long termers that stayed in my room, 404. We formed our own family and spent many hours together. Sarah, Jamie (special), Tom, Leanne, Zoey, Vicki, Mat, Panda and I have all enjoyed being woken at stupid o'clock in the morning if not participating in a night out! We are all from either England or Wales and there is a definate difference between the 2 natonalities! In March, 1 by 1, some of the family members have moved on and continued their travels but each one has a memorial 'goon box sign' as a reminder of their 404 experience. They are simply goon boxes opened and turned inside out and big letters relating to a specific person and an embarassing story they have to tell!

Work

I was offered a job at a restaurant called Bondi Pizza at the end of January. It was a new restaurant and I was due to be a waiter when it opened. The opening date was put off and off and I believe they eventually opened at the end of March, but before they had the chance, I was offered numerous other jobs through an agency. Most of these jobs I didn't say yes to in time, or were cancalled before they could even begin. However, I was eventually offered a job at a call centre and started work on 27th February. The money was finally coming in and I could enjoy Sydney more and more...... Until April 2nd, the campaign we had all been hired for ended March 31st and they let almost 30 people go in the space of 3 days. I was one of them.... So what now? well there was talk by a few of us who were let go while drinking to commisserate that we should go to Melbourne, it was time for a change, and finding a job in Sydney would be like starting from scratch again so why not do it somewhere else. Look out for the next post to find out how well that goes!

The future plans as now...

Sking is now not going ahead, so after camp, I will be returning to Australia and as for after that... only time will tell!
